MAOHL was born on November 12th 1977 in Augsburg/Germany and decided to learn the saxophone before he even knew what a saxophone really was. At the age of 7 he chose - against the advice of the music school management - the much "cooler" saxophone instead of the clarinet. As this decision was based more on the saxophone's shape and golden colour which he had seen mostly on TV, he was hooked to the sound shortly after and has been ever since. After many years of learning, practicing, playing in a big band and a detour via studying mathematics he decided to move to Vienna, Austria in 2004 to study jazz-saxophone and jazz-composing & arrangement at the Vienna Conservatory where he is living and working to this day as a freelancer. |
